Video 48

The documentary film, ”Not in my Garden” brings the story of the unrecognized village of Ram’ya, a Galilee village that was ordered to evacuate its lands in 1991, in order to allow the building of a new neighborhood for Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union in the nearby town of Carmiel. The film describes the struggle of the Ram’yans against the eviction and against the Mayor of Carmiel, Adi Eldar.

The film was finalized a month before the Israeli Palestinian citizens uprising broke out in October 2000. It is still relevant today as it was then.

The film interviews the two sides, and builds a gloomy picture of the current Jewish-Arab relationship that doubts the relevance of the term ”Co-Existence”.

The inhabitants of Ram’ya deal with basic difficulties such as lack of electricity, water, telephones, roads – all related to their unrecognized legal status. The film shows the inability of the Arab Leadership in Israel to help solve the village’s problems.

’Video 48’ represents an alternative video group that focuses on the problems and the lives of Palestinians inside Israel. This population of over a million people suffers from institutionalized discrimination in all walks of life. ’Video 48’ aims to give light and voice to this situation.
