New Issue of Maarav: “Retreat”

This issue explores ideas of retreat and surrender in art, and considers withdrawal, reduction, and disengagement in response to contemporary reality as sites of positive potential. Can we imagine retreat as something other than failure? A movement backward or inward that embraces the meanings embedded in the English word retreat: a place of withdrawal and repair, of introspection; a return to care; a process of healing that folds back upon itself; a space for rest and recovery, for tending to wounds and beginning to heal.
