On the other hand, animation - as a medium that developed concurrently with the cinema along with video art - did not gain formal recognition in Israel as an artistic medium; rather, it is perceived in a commercial or design context. Now more than ever, with the development of the Internet, the blooming multimedia technology and the interactive options, nascent young artists opt for visual communication trends over artistic ones and select animation as a tool of expression reflecting contemporary existence despite the demand for a high level of skill and patience.\r\n\r\nThe Israeli Center for Digital Art , Holon is pleased to present \u201dHere and Now\u201d, the first exhibition in a series of exhibitions in this medium. \u201dHere and Now\u201d is progressive in the sense of living at a time when the visual experience is reported by new technologies, where the realism of the cinema and the imaginary world of animation meet and whose boundaries blur together. \u201dHere and Now\u201d presents the work of seven artists of different ages and from a different artistic background who are engaged in animation.\r\n\r\nThe exhibition will launch the year with the promise of more exhibitions encompassing animation as a medium. The exhibition marks the beginning of the boom of this medium in Israel and worldwide as well as the developing relationship between the analog and the digital, between graphic forms and three-dimensional forms and between commercial and experimental animation. All of the works of art deal with the day-to-day and reflect the way of life and the coping mechanisms in Israel in 2002.\r\n\r\nMoshon Zer-Aviv presents two works entitled \u201dThe Office\u201d which address the cellular revolution and its romantic potential. The work was completed in collaboration with Yoni Goodman and Uri Inks. The \u201dUrban Belle\u201d was designed based on a script by Edna Mazia for the \u201dEnfants Terribles\u201d play and the animated characters are the fruits of the imagination of Meital Duan, Michael Hanegbi and Yiftach Klein, who perform in Mazia\u2019s play. Music by Eran Zur.\r\n\r\nTamir Shefer is a veteran creator of comics and animation and one of the founders of the alternative comics newspaper between 92 and 97 for the San Francisco Tribune and the Village Voice-NY and one of the first in Israel to address the development of material for interactive television. Tamir will present works addressing the local socio-political scene and couple dynamics. These are multi-layered works combining two- and three-dimensional compositions.\r\n\r\nUri Inks and Yoni Goodman will present two animation films - \u201dGod\u201d and \u201dChuck Norris in the Big City\u201d, works which address the issues of a culture of ratings and consumerism in which God and Osama Ben Laden are the main stars.\r\n\r\nAlex Glitzky will present short animation segments which expose an inner world combining cultural and ideological symbols.
